HOW TO ADOPT A CHILD FROM CHINA

Bay Area Adoption Services has had the privilege of working directly with China Center of Adoption Affairs (renamed in 2011 as China Center of Children’s Welfare and Adoption) for over 20 years. We can help you understand how to adopt a child from China. CCCWA is the only government agency authorized by the Chinese government to be specifically responsible for inter-country adoption. Bay Area Adoption Services has helped placing thousands of abandoned and orphaned children from China into loving homes.

The BAAS China Waiting Children Program is for families who adopt special need children from China. The program is open to both families living in the bay area of California and to families living in the other part of the United States. Families living in the bay area of California need to complete their homestudy with BAAS INTERNATIONAL (BAAS) before their dossiers are send to CCCWA. Families living outside of the bay area will need to complete a homestudy with a licensed adoption agency which is Hague or COA accredited in their area and BAAS will help you understand how to adopt a child from China and with the placement of a special need child as the placement agency.

WHO ARE THE CHILDREN IN NEED OF FAMILIES?

Children waiting for permanent loving homes are well cared for as they wait to be matched with their forever families. While waiting for placement, children are cared for in orphanages accredited by the China government.

Children ages 1 year and above are in need of families. All waiting children will have some special need. Prospective parents will work closely with BAAS staff to identify a child that can become part of their forever family. Some of the characteristics of children from China Waiting Children’s Program are:

  • Abandoned and orphaned children of both genders from age 1 to 13 with special needs
  • The most common special needs include cleft palate and lip, limb difference, albinism, congenital heart disease, hepatitis B, burns, port wine birthmark, ichthyosis, hernia, scoliosis, deafness, vision problems, development delay, Down’s syndrome and cerebral palsy etc. BAAS works with families nation-wide who are committed to adopt special needs children.
